The history of the ski school Rot Weiss Rot

Young and old have been learning to ski in our ski school for years and enjoy their best time of the year. But how did it all start and how did we become the ski school we are today? We take a look into the past and take a closer look at the history of the ski school Rot Weiss Rot.Back then, at the ski school St.Johann Alpendorf under the direction of Siegi Baumgartner, two ambitious young men worked who wanted to make themselves a name in ski instructing. The names of the two ski instructors were Siegi Kreidenhuber and Gerhard Sint. The two were good friends and shared the position of chief ski instructor at the ski school St.Johann Alpendorf. When Siegi Baumgartner released the ski school for sale in 1991, the two friends seized the opportunity, became business partners and bought the ski school St.Johann Alpendorf. That was when Sint & Kreidenhuber GesbR was born. After their first season as ski school managers, they expanded their company to include a ski rental and a small sports goods store. The business premises for this was the "Blockhaus" that still exists today. A few years later the company expanded further by opening the “Gondelbüro” branch directly in the valley station of the Alpendorf mountain railways. The ski school and the ski rental quickly became established in local tourism and so a loyal international customer base quickly built up. Then as now, the guests came increasingly from Germany, Holland, Belgium, England and the USA. Another big step for the two partners was the expansion into the neighboring town of Wagrain. In 2003 Sint & Kreidenhuber GesbR opened its first branch in a rented business premises in Wagrain and initially only started with a ski rental. In 2005 the two entrepreneurs managed to acquire a building site directly at the valley station of the Grafenbergbahn and the current location of the ski school Rot Weiss Rot Wagrain was built. In 2007 Siegi Kreidenhuber and Gerhard Sint obtained a ski school license for the Wagrain location and since then have run a ski school in addition to the ski rental and sports shop. In 2008 the business premises in Wagrain were renovated for the first time. In addition to increasing the sales area, a new room for the ski service was created. The ski school in Wagrain has also developed very positively over the years and so from the initial 6 to 7 regular ski instructors became around 40 ski instructors who look after our guests in Wagrain throughout the winter, who increasingly come from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Holland and Belgium. In 2009 Sint & Kreidenhuber GesbR took over the ski school and the ski rental in Siegi Kreidenhuber's hometown in the municipality of Goldegg. After a season in a rented business premises, a small ski school office with ski rental was also built there. In 2010 the company name was changed from Sint & Kreidenhuber GesbR to Sint & Kreidenhuber OG.In 2018, the Wagrain location was rebuilt again and the ski rental and storage room were expanded. And with this career, the ski school Rot Weiss Rot became what it is today with 5 branches and 3 own staff houses. At this point we would like to thank all of our guests and employees who have always supported us actively over the years.

Our 2019/20 Skiseason

The grass is already turning green on the slopes of Snowspace Salzburg and the summer is right around the corner. So we use this time to recap our 19/20 season.

At the very start of the season the snow layer was quite shallow. But right in time for Christmas the weather brought us some snow and perfect skiing conditions. So we started giving lessons in full swing. Around that time, we were able to welcome some familiar faces and clients that visit us every year. The time went by very fast and we made it into the year 2020. In January, our team was busy doing many different things, like preparing our Kinderland, giving private lessons, group lessons and of course celebrating some après ski.

In February, our busiest month, we got some help from old friends and colleges who come every year to help us during high season. This whole month we were able to help our guests from all over the world improve their skiing technique.

As we almost had sunshine every day during that month it was not hard finding joy in being outdoors with the ski school kids and their parents.

In March, the weather forecast promised lots of good weather and the conditions where great for the best spring skiing experience. But sadly, everything turned out a little different. Due to the Austrian governments regulations regarding the Corona virus we were forced to end our season one month earlier than planned, on the 15th of March. That of course came way too early for every ski enthusiast. But the health of our guests and team is a priority for us and, thus, we use this little longer summer for staying fit and preparing for the upcoming season 2020/21. We can’t wait for it to start.

Skiseason 2018/19 in Snow Space Salzburg

A lot of things changed in our skischool and we will have a look back to the season 2018/19. In summer we rebuilt our store in Wagrain. The rental and the shop section got bigger and even more professional. We were more than ready to start into the new season after finishing this project.  At this time nobody could guess how amazing this winter will be. At Christmas time our main team was completed and we started with full throttle into the season. In the beginning of January the big snowfall started and covered our beautiful region with a thick layer of snow. Of course the snow also brought a lot of work. If it was keeping our kinderland in shape or clearing the roofs. Our staff did a good job making everything work. To give you an overview whatelse our staff is doing during the week we will resume one for you. On Sunday morning we start with deviding the groups and our guests get to know their skiinstructor.  The beginners aim for their first turns while the advanced skiers get tipps and tricks from our skiinstructors. Already on Monday we see good progress in the skiing of our clients. On Tuesday there is a big fotoshooting for our kids and fotoalbums are made. Daytrips to Alpendorf, Wagrain and Flachau are held on Tuesday or Wednesday. The highlight of our week is the skischool race with pricegiving and afterparty on Thursday. We are closing the week with a fun last day on Friday  where some of our clients even try alternative snow sports. If you are keen to have a good week we are looking forward to see you in our skischool next year!
