How to become a Skiinstructor

Ski instructors, an old cliché and a real traditional Austrian Job.

But how can one even become a ski instructor? In this article we follow Thomas and Markus Kreidenhuber, both trainers at the Salzburger Berufsskilehrer und Snowboardlehrer Verband, during the Anwärter course in July on the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun.

The Anwärter course is the first education a ski instructor has to do. It is a 10 day course that ends with a teaching exam, a theory test and an exam in skiing technique.

At the Anwärter course the trainers give their students the base for teaching beginners and slightly advanced adults and kids.

The candidates are taught to bring the sport to the guests step by step.

Starting from how to carry your skis, over how to use the lift, to making the first turns.

Of course also the entertainment is an important part of the job and needs to be learned as well.
